.track(ID): A Tool that Helps Students Track, Analyze, and Reflect on their Design Process

The design process is messy, and keeping up with documentation is difficult and time-consuming. We engaged with our own design process and found difficulty objectively assessing our own activities and process. We started designing and over the course of four weeks co-designed with other project groups. This project explores a digital solution to provide aid with documentation of design activities and provides tools to analyse the generated data.

This project I wanted to engage with the design practise from a more holistic perspective. Coming from a very subject-matter background (technical explorations), I was curious to explore a more facilitating role. During this I found that the design process is very different from person to person, team to team, and explored the tension between effort/reward in documentation. The solution we designed was a pragmatic one, and as such It did not really touch on my personal process of documentation.

This project had a large focus on U/S as we wanted to provide the industrial design department and designers with a tool helping document and analyse their design practise, we actively involved five project teams in our testing. It involved elements of T/R and MD/C in the coding of the website. And B/E was explored by exploring the market opportunities.
